
Brown Rallies, but Falls Late at Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Brown baseball team erased an early two-run deficit, but four unearned runs from Penn, including two in the seventh lifted the Quakers to a 4-2 victory over the Bears in Sunday's series finale.

Brown will return home for its final two Ivy League series, next weekend hosting Princeton at Murray Stadium, followed by a three-game set to close the season against Cornell May 7-8.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior Ryan Marra went 3-for-5 at the plate with his team-leading seventh home run of the season.
- Freshman Jared Johnson went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo homer, his fourth home run in his last eight games.
- Freshman Gunner Boree had a hit and two walks.
- Junior Jacob Burley tagged a pair of hits.
- On the mound, senior Zach Fogell got a no decision, allowing two unearned runs and four hits in 5.0 innings of work while striking out two.
- Freshman Santhosh Gottam fired 3.0 innings of relief while allowing two hits and no earned runs.
- Brown outhit Penn 9-6 in the game, while going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, and also limiting Penn to a 1-for-14 clip with men in scoring position.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams loaded the bases with two outs in the first inning, but were unable to score.
- Penn put runners on second and third with one out in the second inning and pushed across two unearned runs for the 2-0 lead.
- Fogell stranded one runner on the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth to keep the Quakers off the board.
- Brown pulled within a run in the fifth inning when Marra stepped into his seventh home run of the season, crushing one off the bat at 103 mph and hitting it over the highway onramp beyond the right field wall to make it 2-1.
- The Bears drew even in the top of the sixth when Johnson launched his fourth home run of the year out to right center field to knot it 2-2. Exit velocity was clocked at 99 mph.
- Penn rallied to take the lead for good in the seventh inning with two runs. The first came on a sac fly following a bit batsman, wild pitch and a passed ball, and the second came on an RBI single with two outs after an error.
