Bears fall to No. 1 seed Michigan in CWPA Championship semifinals

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Brown women's water polo fell to No. 1 seed Michigan in a 14-7 loss to the Wolverines at the CWPA Championship on Saturday (April 23). Lily Weiser led the way for Brown with three goals.
"We struggled putting away our opportunities," said head coach Felix Mercado. "I'm proud of how we fought and hope we can get back on track tomorrow."
Brown fell down 2-0 before Weiser scored her first goal of the game with 2:04 left in the quarter. After two more goals by Michigan, Brown got a goal from Zoe King with two second on the clock.
The Bears cut the deficit to one as Weiser scored her second goal of the game one minute into the second quarter. A Michigan goal was the only other tally in the third quarter as Brown trailed 5-3 at halftime.
Brown allowed three-straight goals to start the third but Weiser ended the run as the clock expired in the third quarter with her third goal, making it 8-4.
Brown picked up three goals in the fourth quarter as Dagmara Czajka, Sierra Mertin and Claire Pisani each found the net but Brown lost the final quarter 6-3 for the final margin.
Sophie Golub led Brown's defense with three steals and Marley Presiado finished the game with four saves in goal.
UP NEXT
The Bears will play in the third-place game in the CWPA Championship, taking on Princeton at 10:30 a.m.
