LEWISBURG, Pa. – Brown dropped a tightly contested game in the third-place game against Princeton, 11-8, at the CWPA Championship. Bryn Gioffredi led Brown with three goals in the defeat.
"Tough way to end the season but I am super proud of this team," said head coach Felix Mercado. "To not be able to train or play for almost two years and have the season we had is an amazing accomplishment. Super proud of our seniors and their leadership. I know the foundation they have helped build will allow us to continue to be a top program."
The Bears got off to a strong start with goals from Claire Pisani and Gioffredi in the first half of the first quarter, giving Brown a 2-0 lead. Princeton responded with four-straight goals over the next seven minutes, jumping ahead 4-2.
Lily Weiser stopped the run with a goal but Princeton responded with another tally. Zoe King scored her first goal of the game right before the halftime buzzer to cut the Princeton lead to 5-4.
The third quarter was a big deciding factor in the game as Brown was outscored 4-0 as Princeton took a 9-4 lead into the final quarter.
Brown opened up the final quarter with three-straight goals in less than two minutes. Two goals from Gioffredi and a tally from King cut the deficit to 9-7 but Brown would be outscored 2-1 in the last five minutes with Claire Poissonnier scoring the final goal of the game.
