INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- For the second straight game, every member of the Brown lineup reached base.
- Seven different Bears each had one hit with Ray Sass and Reece Rappoli each drawing two walks.
- Freshman Jared Johnson hit his third home run in the last five games to put Brown in front in the sixth inning.
- Rappoli had two RBIs on the day, including the game-winner on a safety squeeze in the ninth inning.
- Sophomore Paxton Meyers entered the game following an injury and tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts to earn his second win of the season.
- Senior Zach Fogell got the start on the mound and tossed 4.0 innings of one-run ball, allowing three hits and striking out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yale struck first with the help of two walks and a bloop single to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, then added another in the third on a solo home run by Teddy Hauge.
- Brown evened things up with a pair of runs in the fifth when Chris Lang tagged a single to left field that got by the left fielder to the wall and allowed Jacob Burley to score from first base. Later in the inning, Rappoli tagged a two-out single through the middle to score Lang to tie it 2-2.
- Johnson tagged a 1-0 fastball and crushed a no-doubter over the right field wall to put the Bears in front 3-2.
- Johnson then made a huge leaping catch while crashing into the fence for a sensational play to lead off the bottom of the sixth, helping Brown keep it a one-run lead through six innings.
- Yale manufactured the tying run in the seventh to tie the game at 3-3.
- Brown manufactured the winning run in the top of the ninth. Sass drew a one-out walk, stole second, and went to third on a hit by Ryan Marra. After a pitching change, Rappoli dropped a safety squeeze down the first base line to plate Sass with what proved to be the winning run.
- Burley threw out his league-leading 11th runner attempting to steal in the eighth inning, keeping the go-ahead run out of scoring position.
- Meyers came out and struck out the side in order to lock down the win.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: GRANT ACHILLES
- "Our kids played hard all weekend, and that's something that is starting to show through in the box score. We're making it more difficult on our opponent, and coming out here after two tough losses yesterday and to still keeping bring it, I was really proud of their effort today."
- "One of the big things too is the bottom of our order had zero strikeouts. When you're putting the ball in play, you're turning the lineup over and giving the top half a chance to be up more and you saw the offensive production from the bottom as well, it wasn't just to benefit other people, it was producing runs. That was something that really helped us out today too."
- On Paxton Meyers: "What a bulldog. They saw everything he had yesterday, and to be able to come back on short rest after his performance yesterday, he's earned a lot of respect from people around the league. He showed a big reason why he's one of the top relievers in our league."
