Women's water polo celebrates Senior Day with win over Bucknell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's water polo celebrated its seniors with a win over Bucknell in a split of two games on Sunday (April 10). The Bears dropped its game against Princeton to close out the weekend.
"We struggled offensively today and you can't expect to win against quality opponents when you do that," said head coach Felix Mercado. "We were fortunate to get the split but we have to get better."
GAME 1: BROWN 8, BUCKNELL 6
Zoe King led the Bears with three goals as Brown earned an 8-6 win over Bucknell to start play on Sunday. Claire Poissonnier scored two goals and three other Bears tallied a goal in the win.
Marley Presiado finished the day with eight saves in goal for the Bears.
The game went back and forth with Brown holding a lead at 2-1 after the first inning. King scored both goals for Brown in the first eight minutes.
In the second, the Bears responded to a goal by Bucknell as Poissonnier found the back of the net. Bucknell tied the game with a goal shortly before the end of the half.
The Bears picked up goals from Lily Weiser and Poissonnier as Brown went ahead 5-3 but Bucknell scored the next three goals, jumping ahead 6-5 with 6:56 left in the game.
King's third goal of the game made the score 6-6 with 3:53 left on the clock and Bryn Gioffredi put Brown ahead a minute later. With 1:52 left on the clock, Claire Pisani scored to give Brown a lead they would hold on to the rest of the game.
GAME 2: PRINCETON 10, BROWN 6
A tough third quarter did in the Bears in a 10-6 loss to Princeton to close out play for the weekend.
The Bears fell behind 2-0 before King scored Brown's first goal with 3:33 on the clock in the first.
With Princeton leading 3-1 in the second, Weiser scored twice in less than a minute to tied the game at three. Princeton responded with two goals but King scored two-straight goals a minute apart to tie the game at five at the half.
The game turned in the third quarter as Princeton shutout Brown in the frame, outscoring Brown 4-0 in the quarter.
King scored her fourth goal of the game but it was the only goal for Brown as Princeton took the game 10-6.

Brown will close out the regular season with two games on Saturday (April 16) at home. Brown will start the day against Connecticut College at 11:30 a.m. before playing Harvard at 1 p.m. in the season finale.
