PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball's offense went cold as the Bears lost game three of the series to Penn, 3-0 on Sunday (March 27).
Brown (7-14, 1-5, Ivy) tallied just two hits in the game with Elayna Tsiouplis and Laurel Moody each finishing with one. The Bears were not able to get a hit off Penn starter Bella Fiorentino until the bottom of the fifth.
The Bears got baserunners in the first and third innings as Katie O'Leary was hit by a pitch and Meghan Gormley walked but Brown was not able to do anything with those baserunners.
Penn (7-16, 3-3 Ivy) started the scoring in the second with a solo home run and doubled its lead with another solo shot in the third inning. The Quakers hit their third solo home run off starter Alexis Guevara in the fifth inning to go up 3-0.
Brown had its best chance to get back in the game in the bottom of the fifth. Guevara earned a one-out walk and Moody singled in the next at bat. Gormley walked for the second time in the game to load the bases. Lauren Innerst came to the plate as a pinch hitter but grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Tsiouplis singled in the bottom of the sixth but that would be the only baserunner for the Bears the rest of the game.
Guevara gave up the three home runs but only allowed two other hits and finished with four strikeouts and no walks over five innings. Erin Elgas pitched two innings in relief allowed two hits and striking out two batters.
