Women's water polo beats Mount St. Mary's in Sunday split

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Brown women's water polo earned a win over Mount St. Mary's in a split of conference games on Sunday (March 20). The Bears fell to No. 7 Michigan in the first game of the day.
"I am proud of the way the team played today," said Felix Mercado, Head Coaching Chair for Water Polo. "Earning a split on the road is never a bad thing against two conference opponents. We will regroup and focus on getting better at practice this week."
NO. 7 MICHIGAN 14, BROWN 5
The Bears dropped its first game of the day, falling to No. 7 Michigan 14-5. Brown fell behind 5-0 before a goal by Dagmara Czajka got the Bears on the board halfway through the second quarter. Claire Pisani scored a few minutes later but Brown trailed 7-2 at the break.
Brown scored the first two goals of the second quarter as Lily Weiser and Zoe King found the back of net. Michigan responded with two goals to push its lead back to five.
King scored Brown's lone goal in the fourth quarter.
BROWN 12, MOUNT ST. MARY'S 6
The Bears responded with a 12-6 win over Mount St. Mary's to close out the day. Brown had five players score two runs each.
Brown fell behind 2-0 before Katie Klein found the net. Shortly after, Claire Poissonnier tied the game up with a goal. After The Mount retook the lead, Weiser found the back of the net to the the game heading into the second quarter.
The Bears started the second with a run. Pisani started the quarter with a goal 30 seconds in and King added a goal to put Brown up 5-3. A goal from Sienna Berry increased Brown's lead to three before Mount St. Mary's ended the run. Pisani and Berry each scored another goal to end the half up 8-5.
King scored Brown's lone goal in the third quarter but Brown only allowed one goal, taking a 9-6 lead into the final eight minutes.
Weiser scored the first goal of the final quarter and Klein and Czajka each added goals as Brown pulled away for the win.

Brown will be taking a trip to California over the next week with eight games beginning at Cal State Northridge on Sunday, March 27.
