Women's water polo takes down CSUN and Whittier on Sunday

WHITTIER, Calif. – Brown women's water polo began its trip to California with two wins on Sunday (March 27). The Bears started the day with a win over Cal State Northridge before beating Whitter College to close out the day.
"Always good to start the west coast trip with wins over two quality opponents," said Felix Mercado, Head Coaching Chair for Water Polo. "We are looking forward to continuing to get better on both ends of the game. Tomorrow will be just as challenging."
GAME 1: BROWN 13, CSUN 11 F/OT
The Bears earned an overtime win against CSUN to start its trip to California with a 13-11 win in overtime. Lily Weiser scored three goals to lead the Bears and was tied for the team lead with three assists. Four other Bears each tallied two goals.
Marley Presiado earned the win in goal with 10 saves.
Brown jumped out to an early lead as Dagmara Czajka and Katie Klein each scored less than two minutes into the game. Weiser scored two goals later in the period as Brown led 4-2 after the first.
Goals from Klein, Sophie Golub and Claire Pisani in the second quarter kept CSUN at bay and the Bears continued to lead by two at halftime. The Bears went scoreless in the third quarter as CSUN took a one-goal lead to the final eight minutes.
Brown got quick goals from Sierra Martin and Pisani to jump ahead 9-8 but CSUN tied the game with 3:05 left to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Brown got two goals from Zoe King in the first period and goals from Weiser and Martin in the second overtime period to earn the hard-fought win.
GAME 2: BROWN 9, WHITTIER 4
Brown was led by two goals from Claire Pisani and two from Emily Suong as the Bears beat Whittier 9-4. Marley Presiado finished with nine saves in the game.
The Bears jumped up 2-0 with goals from Pisani and Klein and took a 4-1 lead in the second quarter after Pisani's second goal and a goal from Suong.
Brown scored four goals in the third quarter to make the score 8-3. Martin and King scored within the first minute of the half. Suong added her second goal and Claire Poissonnier scored as Brown capped a 4-0 run.
Brown's final goal came from Weiser early in the fourth quarter.

Brown will take on La Verne and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Monday (March 28).
