PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown softball dropped the first game of Ivy League play, 4-2, at Princeton on Friday (March 18). The Bears jumped out to an early lead but couldn't keep the offense going in the loss.
Brown scored two runs in the top of the first to take the early lead. With one out, Lauren Innerst drew a walk and moved to second on a passed ball. Alexis Guevara walked to put two runners on but a fielder's choice kept the runners at first and second with two outs. Kat Clum delivered with a single to center to score Guevara. Brianna Rodriguez then scored on a double steal after the ball was thrown into center field.
Three walks in the second loaded the bases with two outs but Guevara struck out to end Brown's threat
After the second inning, Brown's offense was shut down by the Princeton pitching staff, registering just one hit over the last six innings. The Bears had chances, drawing nine walks during the game, and getting a base runner on in every inning, but were never able to bring a third run across.
After getting out of a jam in the first, Brown starter Guevara threw a clean second before giving up a run in the third. Princeton broke through in the fourth with three runs. Guevara faced the first two batters of the inning, giving up back-to-back doubles before being replaced by Jodie Aguirre. Three batters later, Princeton's big hit was a two-run double that put the Tigers up 4-2 for the final margin.
Innerst led the Bears with three walks and Guevara was walked twice. Clum and Nicole kim were the only two Bears to earn hits against the Tigers.
