#13 Men's Lacrosse Opens Ivy League Play at #15 Harvard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 13th-ranked Brown Bears (5-1, 0-0 Ivy League) open conference play at 15th-ranked Harvard (3-1, 0-0 Ivy League) on Saturday (Mar. 19) at Jordan Field in Allston, Massachusetts.
Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters Saturday's date with the Crimson with a 5-1 record with wins over Quinnipiac (Feb. 19), Vermont (Feb. 26), Villanova (Mar. 1), Providence (Mar. 5), and Stony Brook (Mar. 12). Brown's lone loss came at 10th-ranked North Carolina (Feb. 23).
- The Bears rank 13th in the NCAA per the USILA Coaches Poll, 15th per the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, and 19th per the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
- As a team, Brown ranks in the NCAA top-15 in seven statistical categories: goals per game (14.83 – 11th); scoring margin (3.33 – 15th); assists per game (8.50 – t12th); shot percentage (.346 – 6th); man-up offense (.550 – t8th); man-down defense (.762 – t8th); and win percentage (.833 – t8th).
- Junior Devon McLane leads the team in goals (21), assists (14), points (35), shots (57), shots on goal (38), and man-up goals (5). He is the lone Ivy Leaguer with more than 20 goals and more than 30 points to this point of the season.
- Senior Darian Cook is second on the team in goals (15), assists (13), and points (28) through six games.
- Sophomore Connor Theriault has made five starts between the pipes and played in all six games. The North Herman, Massachusetts native holds a .559 save percentage and 11.18 goals against average through six games. His save percentage ranks fourth in the Ivy League and 14th in the NCAA.
- Matthew Gunty has taken the bulk of the faceoffs for the Bears this season. He holds a .481 win-rate (65-for-135) and leads the team with 33 ground balls. His 6.60 ground balls per game is second in the Ivy League and 21st in the NCAA.
- Harvard enters Saturday's Ivy opener with a 3-1 record with wins over NJIT (Feb. 19), Fairfield (Mar. 5), and 13th-ranked Michigan (Mar. 12). Harvard's lone loss came against eighth-ranked Ohio State (Feb. 26).
- With last weekend's win over the Wolverines, Harvard jumped into the national polls. The Crimson rank 15th per the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll, 17th per the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, and 19th per the USILA Coaches Poll.
- Offensively, senior Austin Madronic leads the team with 12 goals and 17 points. Three other Crimson players have double-digit points this season: Sam King (15), Miles Botkiss (11), and Nick Loring (10).
- As a team, Harvard's offense ranks third in the Ivy League and 12th in the NCAA with 14.75 goals per game. The Crimson's shot percentage comes in at .343 to rank third in the conference and eighth in the NCAA.
- Harvard's man-up offense has struck for five goals in 11 attempts (.455) to rank third in the Ivy League and 23rd in the NCAA.
- Senior Kyle Mullin has started all four games between the pipes and holds a .493 save percentage and 10.86 goals against average.
- As a team, Harvard allows 10.50 goals per game to rank fifth in the conference and tied for 21st in the NCAA.
- Harvard's man-down defense has allowed five goals in 10 attempts to rank sixth in the league and 60th in the NCAA.
- At the faceoff X, Harvard has struggled with a .396 win-rate to rank sixth in the Ivy League and 66th in the NCAA. Andrew DeGennaro holds a .450 win-rate (9-for-20) to lead faceoff men. Steven Cuccurullo holds a .383 win-rate (31-for-81) while taking the majority of the faceoffs.
- McLane leads the Ivy League and is tied for seventh with 5.83 points per game. He also leads the conference and is 13th in the NCAA with 2.33 assists per game.
- With 3.50 goals per game, McLane is fourth in the Ivy League and tied for eighth in the NCAA.
- He is one of 10 players in the NCAA with five or more man-up goals this season.
- Cook ranks second in the conference and tied for 17th in the NCAA with 2.17 assists per game.
- His 4.67 points per game and .469 shot percentage both rank fourth in the Ivy League and 17th in the NCAA.
- Theriault recorded a career-high 18 saves in Brown's 10-7 win over Stony Brook (Mar. 12).
- Prior to the 18-save performance, Theriault recorded 12 saves in four of his first five games, all Brown wins.
- Several Bears are on the cusp of career milestones with just over half the 2022 regular season remaining.
- Cook currently has 93 career points and 41 career assists.
- George Grell currently has 89 career points, split between 48 goals and 41 assists.
- Ryan Aughavin currently has 85 career points, split between 57 goals and 28 assists.
- Adrian Enchill currently has 82 career ground balls and looks to become the 68th Bear in program history to reach the century mark.
- Luke Gaydos currently has 26 career caused turnovers and is one shy of matching Dylan Molloy '17 for 10th-most in program history.
- Cook recorded his 50th career goal while capping his seventh career hat trick in Brown's win over Stony Brook (Mar. 12).
- Aughavin recorded his 50th career goal with his third quarter goal at UNC (Feb. 23).
- The seven Ivy League programs have compiled a staggering 26-6 combined record to this point of the season.
- Four of the six total losses from Ivy League schools have come against top-10 opponents.
- Brown ranks 13th in the USILA Coaches Poll and is the fifth Ivy program on the list: Cornell (#3), Princeton (#4), Penn (#6), and Yale (#11).
- Harvard is the sixth Ivy team in the USILA rankings at #19.
- Dartmouth is 3-1 to start the season and is receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
- Harvard marks the fifth Brown opponent this season to either be in the top-20 or receiving votes in any of the three major polls.
- Looking ahead, just one of Brown's seven final opponents, Bryant, is neither ranked nor receiving votes in any of the polls.
- Four of Brown's upcoming opponents rank in the top-10 nationally.
