Men's Lacrosse Hosts Villanova on Tuesday in Non-Conference Clash

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (2-1, 0-0 Ivy League) host the Villanova Wildcats (2-1, 0-0 Big East) for a Tuesday clash at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Tomorrow's game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will broadcast and stream on NESN in New England. The game will also stream on ESPN+ for fans outside the region.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters Tuesday's non-conference game with a 2-1 overall record with wins over Quinnipiac and Vermont and a loss at 10th-ranked North Carolina. The Bears are receiving votes in both the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
- Offensively, Brown averages 14.00 goals per game and are led by junior Devon McLane's 11 goals and 18 points. Senior Darian Cook is second on the team with nine goals and 16 points.
- Defensively, the Bears allow 12.67 goals per game with goalie Connor Theriault making two starts. He leads the team with a .523 save percentage and 12.59 goals against average and picked up his first collegiate win over Vermont.
- Brown's EMO offense has seven goals in 12 attempts this season, led by McLane's three man-up goals. Brown's EMO defense has also been solid to start the season, allowing just two goals in 14 attempts, both coming in Chapel Hill.
- Matthew Gunty has taken nearly every faceoff for Brown this season. He holds a .476 win percentage (40-for-84) with 18 ground balls.
- Villanova enters Tuesday with a 2-1 overall record after opening the season with wins over Penn State and Fairfield and a loss at Yale. The Wildcats, like the Bears, are receiving votes in both the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
- Offensively, the Wildcats average 14.33 goals per game and are led by Patrick Daly's 12 goals. Luke Keating leads the team in assists (6) and points (14). In addition to Daly and Keating, Matt Campbell is the third Wildcat with double-digit points this season.
- Defensively, the Wildcats allow 12.67 goals per game with goalie Will Vitton earning all three starts. He holds a .464 save percentage and 13.45 goals against average.
- Villanova's EMO offense has found success early in the season with 10 goals in 17 attempts. Daly has five man-up goals to lead the team. Villanova's EMO defense has been stout, allowing just one man-up goal in 11 attempts.
- Justin Coppola has taken nearly every faceoff for Villanova this season. He holds a .576 win percentage (49-for-85) with 28 ground balls.
- Tuesday marks the fifth meeting between Brown and Villanova in a series dating back to 2016. Brown and Villanova were scheduled to square off in 2020 before the cancelation of the season.
- Both teams have won two games in the series and each game has been won by the visiting team.
- Senior Andrew Geppert matched a career-high with three caused turnovers in Brown's win over Vermont (Feb. 26).
- The caused turnovers marked the first of the season for Geppert, who entered 2022 as Brown's active leader with 28 caused turnovers.
- As a team, Brown finished its win over Vermont with a season-high 11 caused turnovers.
- Brown has finished each game this season with fewer turnovers than its opponent Under head coach Mike Daly, Brown holds a 13-11 record when finished a game with fewer turnovers.
- Tuesday marks Brown's third Cats opponent in four games to open the season. The Bears look to improve to 3-0 against feline opponents after home wins over the Quinnipiac Bobcats and Vermont Catamounts.
- Under Daly, Brown holds a 6-3 record against such opponents.
