Women’s Tennis Upends Fordham 6-1 in Home Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown (4-6) concluded the month of February with a home-opening victory, 6-1, over Fordham (3-2) on Saturday afternoon in the Indoor Tennis Courts at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

The Bears earned the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Britany Lau and Addison Ahlstrom won 6-3 and Gabriella Dellacono and Olivia Mariotti followed with a 6-4 win.

In singles action, Lau completed her perfect day with a 6-0, 6-3 win in the top flight. Sophia Reddy was victorious at No. 3 6-3, 6-3 and Gabby Soliman clinched the victory for Brown with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 4. Ahlstrom (No. 5) and Ryan Peus (No. 6) also earned wins at their respective flights.

"It was great to finally play in front of a home crowd," said Lucie Schmidhauser, Broadbent Family Women's Tennis Chair. "The atmosphere was great and we played with a lot of energy and purpose. Fordham challenged our players to remain focused and close out matches. It was a good effort overall as we look to build on this performance and look to Stony Brook next week."
