PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown softball team will take the field for the first time this weekend, playing five games at the FIU Softball Invitational, hosted by Florida International.
The Bears will play Drexel and South Dakota on Friday (Feb. 25), Stony Brook and Florida International on Saturday (Feb. 26) and another game against FIU on Sunday (Feb. 27).
"Our student-athletes have been waiting two years to get back on the field in meaningful games. They are ready to hit the dirt," said head coach Kate Refsnyder. "We want to get better each day, learn from any mistakes and get ourselves ready for Ivy League play."

The Bears will be playing their first full season since the 2019 campaign. Brown played 10 games in the 2020 season before the rest of the year was cancelled and played two games in 2021 during the spring.
Brown will look very different from the last full season as only six players from the 2019 roster are on this years' squad. Catcher Madeline Charles, utility player Kat Clum, pitcher/first baseman Lauren Innerst, pitcher Grace Ladd, infielder Katie O'Leary and middle infielder Elayna Tsiouplis are the returners for Refsnyder.
In the two games played in the spring of 2021, O'Leary finished with two RBI and two hits, including a triple. Jadey Hagiwara hit a two-run home run in her only at bat.
Erin Elgas started both games for the Bears, throwing 5.2 innings and posting a 1.24 ERA. Jodie Aguirre picked up a win in three innings and collected three strikeouts.
