SAN MARCOS, Texas – Brown softball (1-3) picked up its first win of the season with a comeback win over Colorado State on Saturday (Feb. 21). The Bears split their Saturday games with a loss to Oklahoma State earlier in the day.
Brown 3, Colorado State 1
Brown picked up its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Colorado State. The Bears scored all three runs in the top of the seventh to earn their first win of the season.
The Bears finished with seven hits on the night as both Cameron Zytkewicz Ray and Maya Choksi both collected two hits.
Macy Borowski (1-1) earned her first win of the season with a complete game victory. Borowski allowed just one earned run on six hits while striking out three batters and issued just one walk.
Colorado State broke the ice with a run in the top of the fifth with two outs. A single to lead off the inning and ground out put the runner in scoring position. After a fly out, a single up the middle made it 1-0.
Brown only had two runners reach scoring position in the first six innings but found a way to come back down to its final two outs. Borowski singled down the left field line with one out and Torii Ramirez pinch ran for the Bears' pitcher. Zytkewicz Ray then doubled to center to move Ramirez to third. Maddie Stubenrauch entered the game as a pinch runner at second.
Choksi then stepped to the plate and singled home Ramirez with a shot to left field. Abby Bettencourt then singled back to Colorado State's pitcher to score the go ahead run.
The Bears got insurance two batters later as Maggie Foxx reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded and Choksi scored to make it 3-1.
Colorado State threatened, putting runners on second and third after a two-out double in the bottom of the seventh. Borowski got the next batter to pop out to Choksi at short to close out the game.

The Bears fell to No. 19 Oklahoma State earlier in the day as the Cowgirls beat Brown 17-0 in five innings.
