PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team defeated Bryant 14-11 Saturday afternoon in its first game action since the 2020 season.
Claire Jeschke led the Bears with seven points from three goals and four assists. Leah Caputo had one goals and four assists, while Jackie Mason, Maggie Fowler, and Mia Mascone all scored twice. In goal, Erin Tucker made nine saves. Emmie Lau and Erin Schafer each had a team-high three ground balls.
"Bryant is a great team," head coach Keely McDonald said. "They had a great season last year, so to gut this one out was awesome."
Mia Mascone scored the first goal of the season for either side two minutes into the game. The Bulldogs and Bears would end up alternating goals in the first quarter, ending the frame tied at two.
Jeschke scored her second and third goals of the game in the second, while the defense held Bryant to just one, to give the Bears a 4-3 lead at the half.
Brown's offense exploded in the third quarter, putting five on the board from five different players. Maggie Fowler, Emmie Lau, Jackie Mason, Annie Burton, and Maddie Joyce all found the back of the net in the frame.
The fast-paced offense continued in the fourth quarter for both sides, with a total of 12 goals recorded in the final frame after only 13 across the first three quarters.
Bryant was able to cut the deficit to three after scoring four straight, but two final goals from Mason and Alaina Parisella were able to stop the bleeding and secure the victory.
The Bears are back on the field this Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. when they host Hofstra.
