Men's basketball set for clash at Cornell
2/11/2022 9:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's basketball team will travel to Cornell for a 2 p.m. tip this Saturday, Feb. 12.
The Bears and Big Red both have their eyes on an Ivy League Tournament spot and this game would go a long way for both sides in their quests for postseason play. Cornell currently sits in fourth with a 5-4 Ivy League record, while Brown is in sixth at 3-6. A Big Red win would put some distance between them and the rest of the field, while a Bear win would pull Cornell back to the pack while also propelling themselves into a better position to make a serious run. The top four regular season finishers qualify for the Ivy League Tournament.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Scouting the Bears (11-13, 3-6 IVY)
- Jaylan Gainey put together a pair of impressive performances last weekend. Against Harvard, he scored 13 points and added 13 rebounds and two blocks. Then against Dartmouth, he had 12 points, 13 boards, and four blocks. The 13 rebounds both nights were a career high. Over the last five games, Gainey has averaged 10.2 rebounds, compared to his season average of 6.0.
- Kino Lilly Jr. had a team-high 14 points in both games last weekend. His next bucket will give him the fifth-most points ever scored by a freshman in program history. Sean McGonagill is currently in fifth with 329 points. Lilly is sixth with 328.
- Brown's 10.4 offensive rebounds per game are second in the Ivy League only to Cornell's 10.8.
- In their last game, the Big Red took down Columbia 88-75. Dean Noll had a game-high 23 points for Cornell, who led by 11 at halftime, but let the Lions back into the game up only four eight minutes into the second. The Big Red stretch the lead back to double digits late in the frame to secure the win.
- Jordan Jones' 11.1 points per game lead Cornell, with Chris Manon (10.4) and Noll (10.3) also averaging double figures. Kobe Dickson is the team's leading rebounder at 5.0 per game.
- The Big Red are currently within reach of their best regular season conference finish in the last 10 years. Nine of those 10 years, Cornell finished no higher than sixth place, with its lone fifth-place finish coming during the 2011-12 season. The Big Red finished in the Ivy's top spot back in 2009-10.
- Cornell claimed a 74-72 win in Providence earlier this season on Jan. 30.
- The Big Red built an 18-point halftime lead and led by as many as 21 early in the second half. The Bears came storming back to tie the game twice late in the frame at 65 and again at 72. A layup at the buzzer won the game for Cornell.
- Lilly had a game-high 23 points. Paxson Wojcik had 16 and Tamenang Choh had 10.
