Women's Fencing Posts Strong Showing at Brandeis Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brown Bears women's fencing team posted a 4-1 day at the 2022 Brandeis Invitational Sunday in Waltham. The squad took wins over Wellesley (15-12), Tufts (17-10), Boston College (19-8), and host Brandeis (19-8) while narrowly falling to Cornell, 14-13.

Overall, Brown outscored opponents 83-52 in the day of competition and were led by the sabre (30-15) and foil (31-14).

Individually, Casey Chan and Alexandra Tzou posted 12-2 and 9-1 marks, respectively, in the sabre. Anika Breker was an impressive 13-1 in the foil with Anisha Kasi posted an 8-4 mark. Last but not least, Sofia Yee-Wadsworth went 11-2 in the epee.

The Bears opened the Invitational with a 15-12 win over Wellesley, buoyed by a 7-2 mark in the foil. Brown continued with a 17-10 win over the Tufts Jumbos led by a 9-0 win in the sabre.

The Cornell Big Red stopped the Bears' momentum with a 14-13 win to hand the Bears their first dual loss of the season. Cornell took a 5-4 edge in the foil and completed the victory with a 6-3 edge in the epee.

Brown bounced back to close the Invitational with consecutive 19-8 wins over Boston College and Brandeis. The Bears went a combined 15-3 in the foil and 13-5 in the epee against the Eagles and Judges.

Round 1: Brown 15, Wellesley 12 (S: 5-4; F: 7-2; E: 3-6)
Round 2: Brown 17, Tufts 10 (S: 9-0; F: 5-4; E: 3-6)
Round 4: Cornell 14, Brown 13 (S: 6-3; F: 4-5; E: 3-6)
Round 5: Brown 19, Boston College 8 (S: 5-4; F: 8-1; E: 6-3)
Round 6: Brown 19, Brandeis 8 (S: 4-5; F: 7-2; E: 7-2)

The Bears are off through the holiday break and return to action on Saturday, January 21 at NFC #2, hosted by Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
