Strong Performances at Beacon Invite Cap Weekend for Track and Field

BOSTON, Mass. – The Brown track and field program received strong performances from four men's distance runners on Saturday at the Beacon Invite at the Track at New Balance in Boston to cap a two-meet weekend for the program. On Friday, four women competed in the 27th URI Pentathlon.
On Saturday at New Balance, junior Jesse Edelstein led Brown with a third place overall finish out of 26 runners in the 1,000 meters with a personal record time of 2:29.06, setting a new personal-best by 3.10 seconds. Competing in his second meet, freshman Naveen Sharma finished sixth overall in 2:29.77.
Senior Aaron Siff-Scherr completed his first race of the season, landing on the podium in third place of the mile run in 4:18.30, taking the bronze in a race that had 48 runners.
Senior Geordie Young represented Brown in the 3,000 meters, where he finished just off the podium in fourth place out of 35 runners with a time of 8:41.82, which set a new-personal record by nearly 10 seconds.
Sophomore Delaney Seligmann competed in her first collegiate multi and led the Bears with 3,032 points to finish in 10th place overall. She set three new personal records in the 60m hurdles (9.79), shot put (8.89m) and the 800 meters (2:39.07), where she placed fourth.
Senior Grace Desmond finished 12th overall with 2,813 points, setting a PR in the long jump at 5.06 meters, and also placed sixth in the 800 meters (2:42.55).
Sophomore Kenzii Phillips completed her first pentathlon with 1,974 points and freshman Adrienne Usher totaled 1,812 points.
Brown will return to action after the holiday break at the West Point Open on Friday, January 6.
