
Bears win streak hits five with victory at Central Connecticut

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's basketball earned its fifth-straight win with a 69-46 victory at Central Connecticut on Monday night.
Brown (5-2) was led by Kyla Jones, who scored 17 points and Charlotte Jewell, who tallied 13. Jones scored all 17 points in the first half and finished the game with five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Jewell was 3-for-3 from three and had four rebounds.
Grace Arnolie had another strong game for the Bears, finishing with seven point, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Mya Murray had six points and eight rebounds.
The Bears shot over 47 percent from the floor and locked down Central Connecticut (1-4), holding the Blue Devils to just 29.7 percent shooting. Brown did not trail in the game, leading for 39:29. The Bears did a lot of damage in the paint, outscoring Central Connecticut 36-16.
Gianna Aiello started the game strong for the Bears, scoring six of Brown's first 10 points as the Bears jumped ahead 10-4. CCSU tied the game at one point but Brown took a 21-18 lead after the first quarter.
Brown's first double-digit lead came from a three by Mackenzie Leahy, putting the Bears up 33-21. The quarter belonged to Jones, as the junior scored 11 points in the second, going 5-for-8 from the floor. Jones last second layup ended the half with Brown ahead 39-25.
Jewell started the second half with a three and an Arnolie jumper put the Bears ahead 44-25. Central Connecticut cut the lead to 13 but Aiello beat the buzzer with a layup putting Brown up 50-35.
Jewell was the leader for the Bears in the fourth quarter with eight points, hitting two threes. Beth Nelson and Page Greenburg also hit threes as Brown ended any chance of a Blue Devil comeback. Ada Anamekwe finished off the game for the Bears with a layup.
UP NEXT
Brown will be back at home for a contest against Holy Cross on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. The Bears will be hosting their Mental Health Awareness game against the Crusaders.
