INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gallagher picked up her first goal of the season early in the second period to provide all the offense Brown needed.
- Doyle made 20 saves in net to record her third career shutout and first of the season.
- Freshmen forwards Jade Iginla and India McDadi each assisted on Gallagher's goal.
- Brown outshot Holy Cross 29-20.
- The Bears held a 21-18 edge in the faceoff circle.
- Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams went back and forth through a quick and scoreless opening period. Brown outshot Holy Cross 9-6 in the opening stanza.
- Gallagher got the Bears on the board at 3:43 of the middle period. McDadi sent a pass ahead to Iginla who carried it into the offensive zone in a two-on-one break-in, sending a centering pass to Gallagher who went to her backhand across to the front of the net and slid it past the goaltender's outstretched pad and in.
- Brown killed off a penalty in the latter stages of the third period, fended off the extra attacker in the closing minutes, and drew a penalty on the Crusaders with less than one minute remaining to lock down the win.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: MELANIE RUZZI
- "I really want to thank VP Sarah Latham and the Finance Division here at Brown, along with Courtney Nicolato from United Way Rhode Island for coming out tonight, being with us pregame and showing their support for our program. They created a great atmosphere on a Tuesday night which was great to see."
- "It's always great to get a win. It's so hard to win at this level and every game is a battle. We're weren't able to get it to 2-0 so we had to find a different way to win and that was being gutsy at the end and finding ways to block shots. I think the forwards stepped up and did a really good job defensively locking down the slot area and clearing out loose pucks. Doyle had to make a couple big saves looking through traffic. We found a way to get it done."
- "The power play unit moved the puck really well using all five and getting some scoring chances. They got some good chances but we have to convert those. I think we can get better at those from a maturity standpoint. On the kill, I thought the players took direction and we executed really well."
- "Having Annie Gallagher back in the lineup makes a huge difference on this team. Jade has so much poise and vision. Annie went to the front of the net with her stick on the ice and Jade made a perfect tape-to-tape pass. (McDadi, Iginla and Gallagher) are three skilled forwards playing together and making plays which is fun to watch."
