PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown Bears (8-8, 1-5 Ivy League) and seventh-ranked Princeton Tigers (12-4, 6-0 Ivy League) were scoreless through 30 minutes in the Garden State, but a pair of second half goals lifted the Tigers to the conference win Sunday afternoon.
Jodie Brine (4 saves) turned aside the lone shot faced in the opening quarter, coming off the stick of Beth Yaeger on Princeton's first penalty corner opportunity of the game.
Mikayla Walsh had the lone shot between the two teams in the second quarter with Princeton goalkeeper Robyn Thompson (3 saves) making the stop.
Princeton broke the deadlock 4:07 into the third quarter on the second penalty corner of the game. Autumn Brown found the back of the net with Yaeger assisting on the goal.
Princeton doubled its lead early in the fourth quarter and just one minute after Imogen's Govan shot on goal was saved by Thompson. Sammy Popper scored the goal with Grace Schulze picking up the assist.
The Bears picked up a penalty corner in the fourth quarter for a chance to cut into the Tiger lead, but Lexi Pellegrino's shot sailed wide.
With the win, Princeton captures at least a share of the Ivy League Championship. The Tigers secure the outright title with a win at Columbia next weekend.
Brown closes the 2022 campaign next Saturday (Nov. 5) at Goldberger Family Field when the 15th-ranked Harvard Crimson (12-4, 5-1 Ivy League) head to College Hill. Saturday's Senior Day game is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
