INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Brown outshot Stonehill 46-15.
- Brown's 46 shots on goal are the most since putting 50 on net in win over Sacred Heart on October 22, 2016.
- Playing in her first career game, freshman Jade Iginla scored her first career goal to give Brown the lead in the second period.
- Sophomore Anna Hurd netted her first goal of the season early in the third period.
- Juniors Jess Ciarrocchi, Maya Mangiafico, Sonja Bjornson and freshman Maddie Morgan all collected assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown controlled the tempo through a scoreless opening period, outshooting Stonehill 16-7, while coming up empty on three power play chances.
- Brown wasted no time jumping on Stonehill coming out to start the second, scoring just 50 seconds into the period. Bjornson fed a pass to the top of the slot to Morgan, who let go a shot that was blocked in front and ricocheted right to Iginla, who buried into the left side of the goal to give the Bears the 1-0 lead.
- Stonehill jumped on the board to knot the score 1-1 early in the third period, scoring off a turnover at 2:04.
- The game didn't stay tied for long as Hurd responded just 1:10 later, tipping home a shot top shelf from Ciarrocchi and Mangiafico to put Brown back on top.
- Stonehill pulled the goaltender with under two minutes remaining after a timeout, and tied it off a deflection in front with 1:10 remaining in regulation.
- Brown outshot Stonehill 3-2 in overtime, but neither team found the back of the net.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: MELANIE RUZZI
- "We just have to keep playing our game. We outplayed them for the vast majority of the game. We've got to score on the power play. We had plenty of scoring chances on the power play, but we just have to find a way to bury the puck. At the end of the day, you have to pull away, but we let them back in. I thought we played well, but we just have to get better."
- "We didn't just get shots, we had legitimate scoring opportunities. I thought Stonehill's goaltender played well. She was on top of her crease and their defense cleared out rebounds. Sometimes you just have to find a way to put the puck in the net."
The same two teams will face off once again tomorrow afternoon, this time up at Stonehill with puck drop scheduled for 5 p.m.
