HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown converted a trio of third downs on its opening possession and cracked the scoreboard first on a 35-yard field goal to go up 3-0, burning over eight minutes off the clock. It marked the first points allowed by the Princeton defense in over 171 minutes.
- Princeton answered right back on its first possession at the 3:43 mark on a two-yard touchdown rush by Ryan Butler.
- The Tigers extended their lead right before the end on the half on an eight-yard pass from Stenstrom to AJ Barber to up the lead to 14-3 with 1:56 remaining.
- Brown answered right back, driving deep into Princeton territory. Facing a 4th-and-10 from the 21-yard line with 15 seconds left, Brown sent its offense back onto the field after a timeout and Willcox hit Rockett on the sideline for a 12-yard gain to the nine-yard line. On the next play, the same duo connected as Rockett leaped over the defender and tapped his toes on the sideline for a nine-yard touchdown catch. The play was initially ruled incomplete, but was overturned to a touchdown after review to pull Brown with four going into halftime.
- Princeton took the second half kickoff and marched 75 yards on five plays and scored on a 34-yard pass from Stenstrom to Classi to get the lead back to 10 just 1:29 into the third quarter.
- The Tigers struck again late in the quarter on a 22-yard pass to Classi to go up 28-10 at the 3:06 mark.
- Brown used a season-long 20-play drive to pull within 28-13 with 7:05 remaining in the game on a 25-yard field goal by Maron. The Bears converted two third downs on the drive, including a tough 17-yard run by Smith and a 16-yard pass to DeLucia to set up Brown at the five-yard line.
- After Sean Kelly recovered an onside kick, Brown pulled within 28-19 on a 17-yard catch-and-run by Smith. Brown's two-point conversion attempt was called back on a holding penalty, and the subsequent PAT kick failed after a bad snap, keeping it a two-possession game.
- Princeton recovered the following onside kick, and on their first play, Butler rushed for a 49-yard touchdown to give the Tigers some breathing room at 35-19 with 3:46 remaining.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: JAMES PERRY
- "I think it was a really hard-fought game. Princeton is an excellent team, we're getting better, and I think the key for us will be taking these next eight days. It's one thing about playing on a short week, but now the benefit is we now have eight to get ready for Cornell. I'm confident the kids will learn from today and get better."
UP NEXT
Brown will return home next Saturday, October 22 to take on Cornell on Family Weekend/Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. on ESPN+ and 790 The Score.
