HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cornell took the opening kickoff and went 75 yards on 10 plays, 71 coming on the ground, and capped it off with a three-yard run by quarterback Jameson Wang to go up 7-0 at 10:17.
- After Cornell got the ball on a short field, Brown's defense buckled down and held the Big Red to a 38-yard field goal at 11:34 of the second quarter to take a 10-0 lead.
- Brown got on the board at the 5:57 mark on a three-yard scoring run by Smith, which capped a 16-play, 75-yard drive to make it 10-7.
- Cornell took over at the Brown 49-yard line with 1:31 left in the half, and scored four plays later on a 11-yard pass from Wang to Matt Robbert to make it a 17-7 game going into halftime.
- Brown's defense forced a three-and-out and took over at the Cornell 42-yard line midway through the third quarter. Willcox hit Solomon Miller for a 39-yard pass to the one-yard line and three plays later 4th-and-goal, Smith took the direct snap and leapt over the line for his second score of the game to pull Brown with in three.
- Wang and Robbert connected again, this time for a 55-yard touchdown pass to get the lead back to 10, 24-14 with 11:44 remaining.
- Brown answered right back when Willcox connected with Miller for a 25-yard touchdown strike on third down to pull Brown within 24-21 with 8:04 to play, capping an 11-play, 75-yard drive.
- Taking over at their own 22-yard line with 2:11 to play, Brown drove the ball into the red zone and eventually set up 1st-and-10 from the 11 with under one minute to go. Brown appeared to take the lead on a run by DeLucia, but the touchdown was overturned after review showed he was out of bounds at the one-yard line, instead setting up 1st-and-goal. Two plays later, Cornell came away with a strip sack and fumble recovery to thwart the Brown rally.
- "We're a good team and we played a good team. I think there is a lot to build off of, our player's effort being first and foremost. We as coaches need to find ways to help us score more points. We have to score some more points and do some things to help the kids out. I thought the kids played hard. We got some great stops at the end and moved the ball. It's never easy when you lose that hard of a game, but I'm confident we have the type of kids who will learn from it and will be better next week. They work hard and play hard, and we still have four games to show that we are a very good football team down the stretch."
