PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown dropped its first two Northwest Water Polo Conference games of the season, falling to No. 19 St. Francis Brooklyn and No. 15 Princeton on Saturday.
Gabe Chang, Cole Atwell and Evan Moore all finished with three goals on the day.
"This was a tough day for us. We committed too many turnovers which both teams turned into scoring opportunities," said head coach Felix Mercado. "We have another tough game tomorrow so we need to figure this out. I trust our guys."
No. 19 ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN 17, BROWN 12
The Bears were done in by a seven-goal third quarter from St. Francis Brooklyn, falling to the Terriers 17-12 to start the day.
Evan Moore led Brown with three goals, while eight other Bears found the back of the net once.
Brown led St. Francis 3-2 after the first quarter as Moore scored two and Connor Enright tallied a goal. In the second, the Bears picked up goals from Trey Rogers and Leo Berkman but trailed at the half, 7-5.
The Bears pulled within one at 7-6 to start the second half after Moore's third goal, but St. Francis went on a 4-0 run before Matt Simko found the back of the net. The Terriers scored three more goals to end the third quarter up 14-7.
Five Bears scored in the final eight minutes with Cole Atwell, Gabe Chang, Daniel Hadar, Ilias Stothart and Maxwell Patterson all scoring but it was not enough as St. Francis scored three goals in the final period.
No. 15 Princeton 14, Brown 8

Ilias Stothart gave Brown an early 1-0 lead but Princeton scored the next three goals to take control early in the second. Leo Berkman scored to make it a one-goal game but the Tigers responded with the next three goals. Ben Kirshon found the back of the net for the Bears with just over two minutes left in the half but two goals by Princeton put Brown in an 8-3 hole at halftime.
Chang's goal in the third was the only tally for Brown as Princeton outscored the Bears 4-1 in the third. Brown picked up four goals in the final frame as Atwell scored twice, and Enright and Chang each found the back of the net.
