PROVIDENCE R.I. – Isabella Mauricio scored a career-high 22 points but an undermanned Brown team fell to Harvard 89-58 on Friday night (Jan. 7).
Mauricio led a Brown squad that had just eight healthy players on the night. The freshman was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line, a spot where Brown had a lot of success, with the Bears going 15-for-17 from the stripe. Mauricio also led the team with five assists
Senior Ashley Ducharme hit double-figures for the first time this season, scoring 11 points. Ducharme went 5-for-9 from the floor and grabbed three rebounds. Maddie Mullin chipped in eight points and Myla Cox finished with five.
Harvard jumped out to an early lead at 10-2 before a Mauricio jumper and pushed its lead to. 19-4 before Charlotte Jewell broke the run. At the end of the first quarter, Brown was down 34-15.
The Bears did not allow the Crimson to push the lead any further over the next two quarters and Brown cut the lead to 15 early in the third after back-to-back baskets by Ducharme but the Crimson regained control of the game with a 6-0 run.
Harvard did damage on the offensive glass, outrebounding Brown 15-7 and turning that into a 16-3 advantage in second chance points. The Crimson finished the game with three players each scoring 17 points.
Brown's next scheduled game will be at home on Saturday, Jan. 15 against Princeton. The game against the Tigers will take place at the Pizzitola Sports Center and tipoff will be at 4 p.m.
