
Two Former Bears Set to Compete in Beijing at Olympic Games

BEIJING, China – Two former members of the Brown women's hockey team have been named to Olympic rosters for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games. Forward Maddie Woo '17 (China) and Alena (Polenska) Mills '13 (Czech Republic) will be making their Olympic debuts when the Games get underway next week with Mills captaining the Czech team.
Woo and Mills are the eighth and ninth players to represent Brown women's hockey in the Olympics and the first since the 2010 Games in Vancouver.
A native of Plymouth, Minnesota, Woo, who is of Chinese descent, was a member of the Bears from 2013-17, appearing in 92 career games and totaling 34 points on 14 goals and 20 assists. She led the team in points as a junior in 2015-16 when she posted career-highs in every offensive category including five power play goals. She registered four points through the first five games of the 2016-17 season before suffering a season ending injury. Woo has been playing professionally for the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays (formerly Kunlun Red Star WIH)
since the team's founding in 2017.
Mills spent four seasons with Brown beginning in the fall of 2009 and totaled 61 points over 99 career games with 31 goals and 30 assists. She led the Bears during her senior season in 2012-13 with 19 points and tied for the team lead in goals (10), assists (7) and points (17) as a sophomore in 2010-11. She tied for second on the squad in points during her rookie season. Mills has been playing professionally in Russia since 2014, and was a member of the first Czech team to compete at the IIHF World Women's Championship in 2013.
