Women's Basketball downed by Penn in Ivy League opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Maddie Mullin led Brown will 11 points but the Bears dropped its Ivy League opener to Penn, 66-37, on Sunday (Jan. 2).
Mullin finished the game with going 3-for-5 from three to lead the Bears. Isabella Mauricio scored nine points to finish second on the team but no other Bear scored more than four points.
Brown (5-8, 0-1, Ivy) jumped out to an early lead using a 10-0 run late in the first quarter to earn a 10-point lead at 17-7. Amanda Latkany and Kyla Jones started the run with back-to-back layups before Mullin hit her second three of the quarter. Charlotte Jewell finished the run with a three. A late layup by Mya Murray ended the quarter with Brown up 19-11.
After shooting 44.4% in the first quarter, Penn (6-7, 1-0 Ivy), put the clamps down on Brown's offense as the Bears scored just 18 points for the rest of the game. The Bears were forced in to 21 turnovers and were outscored 30-12 in the paint. Penn's biggest advantage came from the free throw line as the Quakers went 19-for-29 from the stripe, while the Bears were just 2-for-4.
Latkany led the Bears with six rebounds and four assists. For the second-straight game, Brown finished with a season-low five steals.
Penn finished the game with four players in double-figures, led by Stina Almqvist with 18 points.
Brown will remain home as Ivy League play continues with a game against Harvard on Friday (Jan. 6). The game against the Crimson will start at 6 p.m. and you can buy tickets here.
