
Four Bears Named to NHL Training Camp Rosters

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A quartet of men's hockey alumni received invitations to their respective NHL Training Camps: defenseman Zach Giuttari '20 (New York Rangers), forward Garnet Hathaway '14 (Washington Capitals), forward Sam Lafferty '18 (Pittsburgh Penguins), and forward Max Willman '18 (Philadelphia Flyers).
Giuttari captained the Bears as a senior in 2019-20, posting four goals and 11 assists in 31 games played. In his collegiate career, Giuttari skated in 121 games while posting 54 points.
The Warwick, R.I. native spent the 2020-21 season with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the AHL affiliate of the Rangers. He skated in 22 of Hartford's 24 games, posting three goals and three assists with a +4 rating on the blue line.
Hathaway served as an assistant captain at Brown as a junior and senior in 2012-13 and 2013-14. As a Brunoian, Hathaway skated in 121 career games and finished his collegiate career with 20 goals and 58 points.
The Naples, Florida native spent his first professional season with the Adirondack Flames, the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames before splitting the next three seasons between Calgary and Stockton, the new home of Calgary's AHL team.
Hathaway broke into the NHL full-time in 2018-19, skating in 76 games for Calgary while posting 19 points. Following the breakout season, Hathaway signed a four-year contract with the Washington Capitals, where he has spent the last two seasons, playing in 122 games.
Lafferty played 124 career games at Brown while serving as assistant captain as a junior and senior in 2016-17 and 2017-18. He tallied 79 career points while at Brown before spending his first full professional season with the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2018-19, posting 49 points in 70 games.
The Holidaysburg, Pennsylvania native broke into the NHL in 2019-20, skating in 50 games with Pittsburgh and six in Wilkes-Barre while posting 13 points with Pittsburgh. In 2020-21, Lafferty spent the entire season with Pittsburgh, skating in 34 games and tallying six assists.
Willman skated in 99 career games at Brown before playing a graduate transfer season at Boston University in 2018-19 to finish his NCAA career with 135 games played with 51 career points.
As a professional, Willman split the 2019-20 season between the ECHL's Reading Royals and AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms, both affiliates of the Flyers. The Barnstable, Massachusetts native spent the entire 2020-21 season with Lehigh Valley, playing in 30 of a possible 32 games while posting nine goals and 16 points.
