Field Hockey Takes on Yale in Ivy Opener Saturday; Hosts Georgetown Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears field hockey team returns to the East Coast and begins Ivy League conference play on Saturday (Sept. 25) at Yale before returning to Goldberger Family Field to host Georgetown on Sunday (Sept. 26).
Both games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.

- Brown opened the season with three home wins before three road losses to stand at 3-3 as conference play opens. The Bears dropped consecutive 2-1 finals last weekend on the West Coast against Cal (Sept. 17) and UC Davis (Sept. 19).
- Brown is fifth in the country with 8.33 penalty corners per game. Defensively, Brown allows just 4.16 penalty corners per game.
- Individually, Brown is paced offensively by senior Danielle van Rootselaar, who has four goals and 10 points with 28 shots on goal. Junior Ana Claire Piacentini is second on the team with two goals of her own and three Bears lead the team with two assists apiece.
- Junior goalkeeper Jodie Brine has started all six games in 2021 and is 3-3 to start the season. She ranks 21st in the country with a 1.40 goals against average. The Oxshott, U.K. native holds a .758 save percentage through six games.
- Yale is 2-3 to this point of the season with wins over Merrimack and Colgate and losses to Fairfield, Lafayette, and Wagner.
- Theodora Dillman leads the team offensively with three goals and seven points. Six other Bulldogs have two or more points through five games.
- Luanna Summer has started all five games in goal for Yale. She ranks 22nd nationally with a 1.42 goals against average. As a team, Yale is eighth in the country with a collective .816 save percentage.
- Saturday's Ivy League opener marks the 47th meeting between the Bears and Bulldogs in series history. Yale holds a 24-18-4 record in the series, which dates back to 1973.
- The Bears are looking for their first win over the Bulldogs since 2016 and first road win since 2007.
- Georgetown heads to Rhode Island this weekend for away games at Providence College (Sept. 24) and at Brown. The Hoyas look for their first Big East win against the Friars, falling in their conference opener against Liberty, 5-1.
- The Hoyas have struggled to find the back of the net to this point of the season, scoring eight goals through seven games to rank 61st nationally among 77 teams.
- Three Hoyas are tied for the team lead with two goals apiece and Ali Cronin leads the team with eight points.
- Clara Weets has started all seven games in goal for Georgetown and holds a 1.78 goals against average with a .759 save percentage. Weets is 34th in the country in goals against average.
- Sunday afternoon's contest is the fifth meeting between Brown and Georgetown in series history. Brown holds a 3-1 record in the series with all four games being played in Providence.
- The Bears have won three straight games over the Hoyas, taking wins in 2014, 2015, and 2018 with the lone loss coming in 2007.
