SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Brown women's soccer team fell to Notre Dame 2-1 Sunday afternoon.
The Bears hung tough with a talented ACC squad in the Fighting Irish, got on the board first, and even outshot them by a slim margin, 8-7. In the end, Notre Dame was able to fight back with two second-half goals to claim the win over Brown.
"The team fought hard today against a good ACC team," head coach Kia McNeill said. "We have continually proved that we can play with anyone in the country and today's result doesn't take anything away from that. We will take it as a good learning experience and we will be better for it moving forward."
Evelyn Calhoon put the Bears up in the 15th minute of action with her first collegiate goal. In the first half, Brown held a 4-1 advantage in shots.
Things began to change course in the second half when Notre Dame put two of its first three shots on goal, with the second of those tying the game in the 67th minute.
The Irish's Sammi Fisher recorded what would end up being the game-winner in the 77th minute with an assist from Kati Druzina, who also assisted on Notre Dame's first goal.
In the final 13 minutes, Brown would register the final two shots of the game, but weren't able to put either away to tie things up.
Brittany Raphino led Brown with four shots on the day with two going on goal. Ava Seelenfreund was the only other Bear with multiple shots as she recorded two.
Brown will look to bounce back this Thursday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at Providence.
