
Men’s Crew Tallies 10 IRCA Scholar-Athletes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University men's crew has tallied 10 IRCA Scholar-Athletes, the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced on Monday.
2021 IRCA Scholar-Athletes
Honorees from Brown's Class of 2021 included Gustav Hirschfeld (Warner, N.H.), Finn Jenkins (Whakatane, New Zealand), Brian Mundelius (Danville, Calif.), and Thomas Phelps (London, England).
The Bears' selections from the Class of 2022 included Andrew Cooke (Barrington, R.I.) and Tim Zhao (Beijing, China) while the members from the Class of 2023 comprised Mathijs Deetman (London, England), Ian Emery (Dedham, Mass.), Gardner Howe (New York, N.Y.), and Adrian Johansen (Aalborg, Denmark).
In 2021, Brown placed fifth as a team in the Ten Eyck Team Standings at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships.
To be eligible for a scholar-athlete award, student-athletes must be in their second, third, or fourth year of eligibility, rowed in the program's top three boats or raced at the IRA National Championships, and maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
As part of the IRCA's inaugural year, there were 403 rowers and coxswains who met the criteria set by the Awards & Polling Committee. They represented 53 teams (48 heavyweight and 5 lightweight) from the 59 member programs.
