
Track & Field Again Records Top Finishes, Hosts Meet Versus Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's and women's track & field teams hosted its first meet at Brown Stadium since the 2019 outdoor season and welcomed Providence College to College Hill. The Bears again recorded multiple top-10 finishes for the second-straight meet.
"I've been inspired by our student-athletes the last three weeks, competing so well after 14 months away from competition," said Tim Springfield. "Today was made more special by being back at our home track. I'm glad that our seniors especially had one more opportunity to wear the Brown uniform at home. And to come away with six more all-time top 10 performances was tremendous. I couldn't be more proud of our team."
In the field, senior Felicia Renelus (Valley Stream, N.Y.) reached a mark of 18'4.5" in the long jump while junior Lauren Stern (Mahwah, N.J.) put forth an effort of 17'9.75". Renelus and Stern followed with distances of 40'1.5" and 39'3", respectively, in the triple jump, with Renelus' mark tying for ninth all-time at Brown and besting her previous distance that was 10th from last weekend at the UConn Northeast Invitational.
For throwing, juniors Kegan Schroeter (Narragansett, R.I.) and Jae Crawford (Orlando, Fla.) logged distances of 207'4" and 147'6", respectively, in the hammer. Schroeter's throw landed him third all-time at Brown, besting his previous third ranking of 206'4" that he put up last Saturday at Bryant. Crawford (142'2") and Schroeter (156'4") also competed in the discus and senior Michael Neary (Darien, Conn.) registered a distance of 46'1.25" in the shot put.
The javelin saw junior Shira Stoller (Sharon, Mass.) log a throw of 141"6", good for seventh all-time, and junior Erin McMeniman (Dracut, Mass.) also recorded an all-time mark of ninth with a distance of 136'11". Both athletes also had throws in the top-10 last weekend at Bryant (Stoller 147'2" - 5th, McMeniman 139'8" - 8th).
In the 100, senior Gracie Whelan (Charlotte, N.C.) was the top finisher for Brown in 11.91 while junior Maddie Frey (Waukesha, Wis.) recorded almost an identical time of 11.92 to also get under the 12-second threshold. Their times also rank sixth and seventh, respectively, all-time at Brown. Sophomore Ethan Gardner (Alpharetta, Ga.) led the men in the same event, crossing the line in 11.03 while senior Obi Ifediora (Verona, Wis.) (11.08) and junior Alex Wilson (Louisville, Ky.) (11.10) followed.
Senior Kevin Boyce (Columbus, Ohio) was the top finisher in the 200 with a time of 23.31 with senior Tim McDonough (Rocky River, Ohio) (23.47) and senior Eric Ingram (Hilliard, Ohio) (24.67) behind him. Three Bear finishers led the women in the 200 with Whelan claiming the top spot a second time on the afternoon, this time with a time of 24.97, with Frey (25.11) and freshman Emma Gallant (Windham, Maine) (25.97) trailing.
Wilson, senior Bretram Rogers (Grand Prairie, Texas), Boyce and Gardner combined for a time of 43.09 in the 4x100 relay.
Junior Emily Kompelien (Edina, Minn.) paced the Bears in the 1500 with a time of 4:34.97 and sophomore Nate Price (Edinboro, Pa.) took the 3000 for the men in 8:35.35 while senior Hughes Benjamin (New Orleans, La.) added a time of 8:46.09 in the event.
