Brown University athletics will be recognizing its spring senior student-athletes throughout the months of March, April, May, and June. Senior student-athletes will be featured during the week on Brownbears.com and various social media platforms.
Name: Katie O'Leary
Hometown: Manteca, Calif.
Sport: Softball
Concentration: Geological Sciences
Accolades: Earned NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors … Won the team's Zucconi Strength Award in 2018 and 2019.
Accomplishment you are most proud of:
The most accomplished I've ever felt is when my teammates called me a mentor. Being a role model for anyone, being worthy of someone's respect is such an honor. I know that as a younger player, upperclassmen really helped me through some difficult moments and helped me grow. Knowing that I've done the same for others has been one of the biggest accomplishments in my sports career.
Favorite spot-on campus:
I love the archaeology building – Its official name is the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology, and its lower floor isn't that impressive, but the second floor has this amazing set of reading nooks that overlook the quiet green across from the Hay Library. It's beautiful, perfect for reading, and maybe a little daydreaming too.
Favorite activity outside of your sport:
I love being active! Walking, biking, lawn games – you name it. If I had to choose something less sports related, I would actually choose knitting. It's really soothing, still fairly active, and I get a sweater or a blanket or a hat at the end of it all!
Something you can't live without:
I'm a little sappy, but I couldn't live without my family! They're my favorite people and my whole world. They're my support system and my best friends!
