Men’s Crew’s Legenzowski Concludes Racing at USRowing Olympic Trials

SARASOTA, Fla. – Brown University men's crew's Will Legenzowski '22 took first place in the B final and fifth place overall in the men's single scull at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Rowing #1, from February 22-25 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla.
A native of Vista, N.Y, Legenzowski opened racing with a sixth-place finish out of 24 entries in Monday's time trial with a time of 6:46.54. In his heat on Tuesday, he took second place with a time of 7:48.48 before winning his repechage on Wednesday with a time of 7:19.09. Legenzowski placed third in his Thursday semifinal behind a time of 7:24.66. He concluded racing with his victory in the B final with a time of 7:56.66.

Legenzowski won a bronze medal in the first varsity eight at the 2019 Eastern Sprints before helping the varsity eight win the petite final at the 2019 IRA National Championships. He won a bronze medal in the championship eight at the 2019 Head of the Charles and took third among collegiate crews at the same event in 2020.
Prior to Brown, Legenzowski raced for New Canaan Crew and Maritime Rowing. He captured two Northeast Region and National Championship titles in the junior quad. Legenzowski finished as the runner up for the USRowing Junior Athlete of the Year.
Alumnus Josh Remland '17 (Temecula, Calif.) also competed at the trials, taking second place in the A final of the men's lightweight double scull. Remland opened racing with a second-place finish in Monday's time trial (6:13.82) before winning his Tuesday heat (7:16.63). He concluded racing on Friday with his second-place finish in the A final (6:35.50). While at Brown, Remland won a silver medal with the fourth varsity eight at the 2015 Eastern Sprints and a silver medal in the varsity four at the 2014 IRA National Championships.
The second 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials will take place April 12-16 in West Windsor, N.J. That regatta will feature racing in the women's double sculls, men's quadruple sculls, and men's pair. The Final Olympic Qualification Regatta will take place May 15-17 before the Olympic Games run from July 23-August 9, with rowing events slated to start on the morning of July 23.
