
Women's basketball hosts Providence on Wednesday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's basketball returns home to face off against cross-town rival Providence on Wednesday (Dec. 8) at 6 p.m. in the Pizzitola Sports Center. The game against the Friars will begin a stretch of seven-straight games at home for the Bears.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and will be broadcast on AM790.

- Brown picked up a win over Holy Cross on Sunday (Dec. 5), 57-55. The Bears jumped out to a 17-2 lead against the Crusaders and managed to hang on for the win. Amanda Latkany hit two free throws with two seconds left in the game to give the Bears the win.
- Amanda Latkany scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the win. Latkany was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and led the Bears with six points in the final quarter. Latkany was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for her effort.
- Charlotte Jewell filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, a career-best nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Jewell led the Bears against Holy Cross in rebounds, assists and made threes, hitting two from deep.
- Kyla Jones reached double figures with 12 points. Jones has reached double-figures in five games this season, the second-most on the team. Jones also led the team in steals with four.
- Brown finished the game with 11 steals, the first time Brown has had double-digit steals in the last four games. Brown has had double-digit steals in four of the eight games this season and has never had fewer than seven steals this season.
- Brown got off to a hot start against Holy Cross, shooting 42 percent from the field and 43 percent from three in the first quarter. The Bears defense held Holy Cross to just 26.7 percent shooting in the first quarter and forced six turnovers. Brown led 17-2 with 3:20 left in the first quarter for its largest lead of the season (15 points).
- The Bears led for 37:37 of the game against Holy Cross. It was the most time Brown has led during a game this season and the first time the Bears have not trailed in a game this year.
- Brown is 4-10 against Providence on its home court but has won the last three games against the Friars at home.
- The Bears were the only team in the NCAA to have its starting lineup in the first game of the season made up of five players that had not played in a college game before. Brown's starting lineup consisted of four sophomores and a freshman. Brown's 2020-21 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Providence is 4-5 on the season and is coming off a 47-55 loss at home to Georgetown on Sunday (Dec. 5).
- Four Friars are scoring in double-figures this season with Jani Crooms leading the way at 13.7 points per game. She is followed by Alyssa Geary (13.1), Kylee Sheppard (12.5) and Mary Baskerville (10.3).
- Crooms is averaging a double-double on the early season pulling down a team-high 10.1 rebounds per game and is also leading the team in assists (37) and steals (18).
- Providence was held to a season-low 47 points against Georgetown, the previous low was 53 and the Friars had scored at least 62 points in the five games before the loss to the Hoyas.
- In the loss to Georgetown, Providence tied its season low, shooting 33 percent from the floor. In the three previous games, Providence shot at least 43 percent from the field and is shooting 40.7 percent on the season.
