PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman goaltender Mathieu Caron has been named ECAC Goaltender of the Week following his two shutout wins over 17th-ranked Harvard (Dec. 3) and Dartmouth (Dec. 4).
It marks the first Goalie of the Week honor of Caron's career and the second by a Brown goaltender this season. The Abbotsford, British Columbia native ranks second in the ECAC and ninth in the NCAA with a .933 save percentage.
Caron recorded 34 saves in Brown's 2-0 win over the Harvard Crimson on Friday, picking up his first collegiate win and shutout in the process.
The following night, Caron recorded 28 saves in Brown's 4-0 win over Dartmouth, becoming just the third Brown goaltender since 2000 to record back-to-back shutouts, joining elite company alongside Mike Clemente '12 and Yann Danis '04
Clemente held Harvard scoreless on consecutive nights in the 2009 ECAC First Round Series. Danis recorded two straight shutouts twice: blanking St. Lawrence and Clarkson on February 15 and February 16, 2002 before blanking Harvard and Vermont on November 2 and November 8, 2002.
Brown returns to the ice tomorrow night to take on the Boston College Eagles (7-5-2, 5-3-1 HEA) at 7 p.m. at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Tuesday night's game will air and stream on NESN.
