WALTHAM, Mass. – Brown picked up four wins at the Brandeis Invitational on Sunday (Dec. 5). The Bears earned a win in all but two weapon rounds on the day.
The team earned wins over Wellesley (16-11), Incarnate Word (23-4), Brandeis (20-7) and Boston College (15-12). Brown's lone defeat on the afternoon came against Cornell (10-17). Overall, Brown finished the day with a composite record of 84-51.
"I am very proud of our Women's Fencing team and their strong performance at the Brandeis Invitational today," said head coach Alex Ripa "From the moment they stepped on piste this morning, they were determined to give everything - and it showed. In one of the best results for Brown at this event, our women's team defeated all schools save one on this very long day of fencing. I'm excited to continue our successful campaign after the well-deserved winter break."
As a team, Brown's sabre was the best weapon for the Bears, earning an undefeated record at 5-0 (27-18). In the foil, Brown was 4-1 (30-15) and the Bears were 3-2 (27-18) in the epee.
Freshman Rebecca Whang posted the most wins of the day going 13-1 in the sabre. Casey Chan earned 11 wins in the sabre. Anisha Kasi led the way with an 11-4 record in the foil, while Anika Breker went 10-5. Sofia Yee-Wadsworth posted a team-best 10-5 record in the epee.
