Fencing goes 5-0 at NFC #2

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brown fencing pulled off a clean sweep of the day winning all five matchups at NFC #2 on Saturday (Jan. 22). Three Bears were perfect on the day in all of their matches.
The Bears began the day with a close win over Boston College (15-12) and followed that with a 22-5 win over Brandeis. In round three, Brown eared a 19-8 win over Vassar and a picked up an 18-9 victory over MIT. To close out the day, Brown cruised to a 25-2 win over Dartmouth. On the day, Brown outscored its opponents 99-36.
"I am extremely proud of Brown's Women's Fencing Team and their sweep of the Northeastern Fencing Conference," said head coach Alex Ripa. "The team fenced with guts and grit, and fought for every single bout. They began the day with an important victory over a strong BC team, and never let up from there until they finally clinched an undefeated record in the NFC!
As a team, Brown's epee was the best weapon for the Bears, earning an undefeated record at 5-0 (34-11). The Bears were 4-1 in both the foil (35-10) and the sabre (30-15)
Sofia Yee-Wadsworth posted the best record on the day for Brown, going a perfect 15-0 in the epee. Anika Breker (12-0) and Rebecca Whang (12-0) went undefeated in the foil and sabre, respectively. Casey Chan also earned 12 wins, going 12-3 in the sabre.
Brown will finish up the regular season at the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by MIT, on Jan. 30.
