
Pelusi Finishes Second to Highlight Bears at URI Multi Meet

KINGSTON, R.I. – Jono Pelusi took home second place in the men's heptathlon on Friday afternoon, capping two days of competition for the senior. Pelusi finished with 4,843 points, just one point behind URI's Devin Donahue for first place. Brown also had two female athletes competing in the pentathlon, with sophomore Chiamaka Odenigbo finishing fifth and junior Grace Desmond finishing 11th.
Pelusi's runner-up performance was highlighted by wins in the pole vault (4.40m) and 1000 meters (2:41.97), with the 1000-meter time a new personal record. He also added a third place performance in the long jump (6.43m) and fourth place finishes in the high jump and 60-meter dash. His point total was just 115 points shy of his personal-best. The heptathlon featured 10 competitors from URI, Sacred Heart, UMass Lowell, UMass Amherst and New Haven.
Competing in a multi for the first time at the collegiate level, Odenigbo finished with 3,230 points to finish fifth out of 21 competitors. Her performance was highlighted by runner-up finishes in the 60m hurdles in 8.93 seconds, and the long jump with a leap of 5.42 meters. Additionally representing Brown was Desmond, who also made her first collegiate appearance in a multi, finishing 11th with 2,940 points, placing in the top half of the field in both the long jump and 800 meters.
Brown will have a month off before it next competes on Saturday, Jan. 8 at the Beantown Invitational, hosted by Harvard.
