PROVIDENCE, R.I. – More postseason honors rolled in for a pair of Brown football players on Monday. Senior quarterback EJ Perry and junior wide receiver Wes Rockett were named to the 2021 New England Football Writers Division I All-New England Team.
The team honors the best Division I FCS and FBS players by position from the 2021 season, which were selected from the 15 Division I football schools in New England.
Perry earns the second All-New England honor of his career, previously being named to the 2019 squad. A finalist for the 2021 Walter Payton Award, Perry was also named First Team All-Ivy for the second straight year after leading the league in seven different categories including total offense (343.5), completions per game (29.5), touchdown passes (23), passing yards (3,033), passing yards per game (303.3), points responsible for (188), and points responsible for per game (18.8). He ranked in the top nine in all of FCS Football in six different categories, including third in completions per game, seventh in completion percentage (.664), eighth in passing yards per game and total offense, and ninth in points responsible for and points responsible for per game.
Perry climbed up the ladder in both the Brown and Ivy League record books, finishing the year second all-time at Brown for single-season pass completions (295) and total offense (3,435), third in completion percentage (.664) and fifth in passing yards (3,033). His 295 pass completions this season were the second-most in Ivy League history, just 14 behind head coach James Perry's Ivy League record total from 1999. His 3,435 total yards of offense was also third-most in any season in Ivy League history, giving him two of the top three spots on the total offense list in league history.
Rockett, who was previously named to the All-Ivy Second Team, earns the first All-New England honor of his career. He led the team and the Ivy League with eight touchdown receptions this season, while tying for the team lead with 664 receiving yards and was second with 56 receptions. His 56 receptions ranked third in the Ivy and he was tied for fourth in receiving yards. Also serving as Brown's primary punt returner, Rockett ranked eighth in the league with 79.1 all-purpose yards per game. He had two games this season where he caught three touchdown passes against Princeton and Yale.
The Brown duo, along with the rest of the All-New England honorees will be honored at the NEFW Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 9 at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel and Conference Center. More information and reservations are available here.
