Volleyball finishes regular season with a sweep at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – Brown volleyball finished its season with its best offensive performance of the season in a 3-0 win over Dartmouth. The Bears finished the year with a school record 13-1 mark in the Ivy League.
Brown (20-4, 13-1 Ivy) hit a season-best .412 in the win over the Big Green committing just seven errors in the win.
Kate Sheire led the offense with 10 kills, hitting .600. Sophia Miller, Gabby Derrick and Beau Vanderlaan all finished with eight kills. Derrick hit a stellar .800, Vanderlaan hit .429 and Miller hit .333. Jilienne Widener finished the match with seven kills and hit .250.
The win for the Bears gives Brown its first 20-win season since 1998 and Brown finishes the regular season with the fewest losses in school history.
The Bears held Dartmouth to just .127 hitting finishing with 40 digs and 12 blocks. Kailtyn Wong and Victoria Vo led the backline with 12 digs each. At the net, Derrick and Vanderlaan each had six blocks to lead the team.
The offense came out on fire for Brown, hitting .520 in the first set with 15 kills and just two errors and the Bears won the first set 25-14. Up 12-8, Brown used a 5-0 run to take control of the set. Derrick bookended the run with kills and Miller added two aces. A 3-0 run with kills by Vanderlaan and Widener and a block by the duo all but sealed the set. Brown earned the set win with kills from Widener and Derrick.
Set two was tighter with Dartmouth matching every run the Bears put together. A kill from Sheire put Brown up 21-19 and the Bears kept the lead, earning set point at 24-22 with kills from Derrick, Vanderlaan and Widener. After Dartmouth pulled within one, Miller picked up a kill to end the set.
Brown started the third set on a 6-1 run and never looked back. Vanderlaan teamed with Widener and Kristin Sellers for two blocks during a 5-1 run that made the score 11-3. Back-to-back blocks by Derrick and Sellers were part of another 4-0 run. After a point from Dartmouth, Brown went on a 6-0 run that featured two kills by Sheire and one from Miller to go up 21-6 and the Bears finished off the match with a 25-11 win.
Having clinched the outright Ivy League title, Brown will now wait to find out its opponent in the NCAA Tournament during the NCAA Selection show on Sunday, Nov. 28.
