
Women's basketball travels to Sacred Heart on Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's basketball continues its early season road swing with a game at Sacred Heart on Sunday (Nov. 14). The game against the Pioneers is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the William H. Pitt Center in Fairfield, Conn.

- Brown dropped its first game of the season with a 52-76 loss to Fairfield to open the season. The Bears were down by four at halftime but were outscored 24-9 in the third quarter as the Stags took over the game.
- The Bears were playing their first game in over 600 days and the majority of the roster had not played a college game before taking on Fairfield. All five Bears in the starting lineup were playing their first collegiate game with four sophomore and a freshman starting the the Bears after the 2020-21 season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Only two Bears (Maddie Mullin, Lexi Love) who had played in the 2019-20 season appeared in the game against the Stags.
- Sophomore Kyla Jones led the Bears with 15 points and four assists in the opening game. Jones was 7-for-16 from the floor but just 1-for-5 from three-point range. Jones was also tied for the team lead with two steals.
- Sophomore Charlotte Jewell was efficient on offense, scoring 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting. Jewell went 3-for-4 from three-point range, tied with Isabella Mauricio for the most threes made by the team that night. Jewell was also tied with Chantal Nadia with six rebounds to lead the team. Jewell also had three assists to finish second on the team.
- Amanda Latkany finished the game against Fairfield with seven points, leading the Bears off the bench. Latakany was 3-for-5 from the floor and pulled down five rebounds.
- Brown has had control of the series with Sacred Heart in recent history. The Bears have won five-straight against the Pioneers, including a 102-77 win back in 2017 in the last meeting. The 102 points are the most Brown has scored against a Division I opponent in school history.
- Sacred Heart started the season with a 71-62 win at Hartford. The Pioneers led by seven at the half and never looked back on their way to a nine-point victory.
- Sonia Smith led Sacred Heart with 22 points and was tied for the team lead with five assists. Smith played all 40 minutes as four of the five started played at least 37 minutes.
- Nikki Johnson filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, seven rebounds, five assist and two steals.
