HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown came out of the gates firing, outshooting Dartmouth 12-6 in first period, including getting the final seven shots on goal of the period over the final six-plus minutes.
- The Bears jumped on the board with the game's only goal at the 13:57 mark of the period when Hurd streaked down the left side, threw a pass in front for Maloney, who's one-timer was stopped, but Paolillo was right on the doorstep and buried the rebound to give Brown the 1-0 lead.
- Dartmouth had a quality scoring chance with 2:12 remaining in the second period, but Doyle stood tall and made a key glove save.
- Dartmouth outshot Brown 12-6 in the second period, as each team registered 18 shots on net through two periods.
- Dartmouth had another chance to tie the score with just under 12 minutes to go, but Doyle made the save on a shot from the left wing circle, and the rebound was knocked off the outside of the net.
- Brown nearly tallied an insurance goal in the third on a clean breakaway by Maloney, but was denied by Dartmouth goalie Maggie Emerson.
- The Big Green immediately countered with an odd-man rush of their own, but Doyle once again came through with the save.
POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Melanie Ruzzi:
- "Creating more opportunities offensively was the focus of practice on Wednesday coming off the UConn game. We really worked on those the last two days and they're fast learners. They have the skillset and the understanding to make the adjustments."
- "The defense showed tremendous growth today. I never like to single out one unit or another, but as a group the defense was exceptional. They started to move their feet and show confidence and they allowed Kaley to see a lot of pucks because they were physical and controlled the game."
- "The first win is meaningful. Sometimes you have to keep showing the players they are getting better, but you need that win for them to really truly believe it and be hungry for more. I think this was important for our group."
- "We had the motive to get pucks on net today. We played hard and fast, and our defense really stepped up into the plays. I'm really happy that the girls were able to keep the lead the whole game and we worked hard to get that win."
- "Our defense was awesome. There were no screens and I saw the puck the whole way. And if there were any rebounds, they cleared them out and gave us every chance to win."
