PREVIEW: Brown Returns Home to Face Colgate on Youth Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the first time in 25 years, Brown will take on Colgate on Saturday afternoon in the Bears' final non-league matchup of the season. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. on Youth Day at Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium.
Following an 0-3 start to the year, Colgate has won its last two games, both in Patriot League play over Lehigh and Georgetown. Brown is seeking its first win of the season after a furious fourth quarter rally fell just short last week in a 36-29 defeat at Bryant.
OPENING KICKOFF
• Brown and Colgate will square off for the 57th time on Saturday afternoon, but it has been a while since the last time the two schools played each other on the gridiron, with the last matchup coming back in 1996.
• Brown is 21-28-7 all-time against the Raiders.
• Colgate won the last matchup between the two 44-27 in Hamilton, N.Y. in 1996, while Brown's last win came in a 21-6 triumph at Brown Stadium in 1995.
SCOUTING BROWN
• Last week at Bryant, Brown scored three touchdowns over a span of 3:32 to pull within seven points late in the fourth quarter, recovering two onside kicks during that span. It marked the first time the Bears had recovered an onside kick since 2017.
• The 29 points scored by Brown in the fourth quarter are the most in one quarter since they scored 21 points in the third quarter of a 35-27 win at Bryant on Sept. 17, 2017.
• Brown is 7-for-10 on fourth down conversions this season, good for tops in the Ivy League and 22nd in FCS.
• The Bears rank second in the nation in fewest penalty yards and 10th in fewest penalty yards per game (33.67).
• Brown is outscoring opponents 53-10 in the fourth quarter this season.
• Entering this weekend, Brown boasts the seventh-best passing offense in the nation with 332.0 yards per game.
• Fourteen different Brown receivers have at least one reception so far in 2021, led by Wes Rockett with 21 catches for 240 yards and two touchdowns. Rockett also ranks 10th in FCS with 7.0 completions per game.
• Senior quarterback EJ Perry ranks sixth in FCS and leads the Ivy League with 332.0 passing yards/game and 351.3 yards of total offense. He is also third in the nation with 31.67 completions per game.
• Senior linebacker Jason Medeiros is tied for fourth on the squad with 15 total tackles, and leads the Bears with three tackles-for-a-loss and two sacks.
SCOUTING COLGATE
• Saturday's game is the second of four-straight games on the road for the Raiders. Colgate played three home games after starting the season at Boston College.
• Colgate scored just 10 points in the first three games and has scored 58 points over its last two.
• In the first three games of the season, Colgate averaged no more than 4.15 yards per play in any game. Those numbers jumped over the last two weekends. The Raiders averaged 6.70 yards against Lehigh and 6.11 yards per play against Georgetown.
• Senior quarterback Grant Breneman is the offensive catalyst for Colgate as the leading passer and rusher on the roster for the Raiders. Breneman has thrown for 680 yards on the season, completing 60.4% of his passes. He has thrown for two touchdowns and four interceptions and is averaging 136 yards through the air.
• Breneman leads the team with 237 yards rushing on 68 attempts for a team-best 47.4 yards per game.
• John Cox is second on the team with 165 yards on the ground this season, averaging 33 yards per game and 7.9 yards per carry.
• Colgate's offense has three leading targets - Garrett Oakey, Max Hurleman and Myles Bradley. Oakey leads the team with 40.4 yards per game and two touchdowns. Hurleman has a team-high 17 catches and is second on the team at 39.8 yards per game. Bradley has 16 catches for 166 yards on the year and one touchdown.
• Milton Braasch II is the leading tackler for Colgate with 38 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. Braasch also has the team's only forced fumble.
