Brown Women Earn Perfect Score as Cross Country Sweeps Rothenberg Run

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. – The Brown women's cross country team earned a perfect score of 15, sweeping the top seven spots at the annual Rothenberg Run on Friday afternoon at Goddard Memorial State Park. The Brown men also had a strong first-place showing, sweeping the top four spots, including eight of the top 10 overall to finish with 16 points. The meet featured Brown and the University of Rhode Island, as well as unattached runners.
Brown's women swept the top seven spots in the 3200-meter meet, as part of taking eight of the top 10 spots overall. Senior Emily Kompelien led the Brown pack for the third time this season by crossing the finish line in first place overall out of 24 runners in 11:14.2. Fellow senior Katherine Dokholyan placed runner-up in 11:18.4, followed by sophomore Isa Stronski (11:20.5), sophomore Tevah Gevelber (11:37.1) and freshman Isolde McManus (11:39.4) to round out the top five. Sophomore Katie Orchard (11:51.0) and senior Isabela Bartczak (11:57.3), who made her season debut, completed the team's (and overall) top seven.
Brown's men were nearly perfect, sweeping the top four spots overall, and all 14 Bears runners set new collegiate PRs for the 5K distance. Senior Griffin McCauley led the way to break the tape with a time of 14:48.1. He was followed closely by senior Jared Yabu (14:49.2), senior Ben McCoy (14:52.2) and sophomore Evan Sherman (14:58.3). Junior Nate Price was the next Bear to cross the finish line in sixth place in 15:02.7 to complete Brown's scoring five. Junior Gabriel Cannavo (15:06.6) placed eighth and Jesse Edelstein (15:10.7) finished ninth to complete Brown's top seven.
With the regular season meets in the rearview mirror, championship season awaits the Bears, starting with the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships next Saturday, Oct. 30 in Princeton, N.J.
