Volleyball travels to Penn and Princeton for big Ivy League matches

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After spending the last two weeks on its home court, Brown volleyball takes to the road for critical matches at the halfway point of the Ivy League schedule. The Bears will take on Penn on Friday (Oct. 15) at 7 p.m. before facing off against Princeton on Saturday (Oct. 16) at 5 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
Brown (12-3, 5-0 Ivy) is riding an eight-match winning streak and sits tied on top of the Ivy League standings with Princeton after three weeks of play. The winning streak is the longest for Brown since winning 11 games in 1998. The 5-0 start is the best start to Ivy League play for the Bears since going 7-0 in league play in 1998.

SCOUTING BROWN
- For the second time this year, Sophia Miller was named Ivy League Player of the Week. Miller finished the weekend with 28 kills, 16 digs and six blocks as Brown beat Dartmouth and Harvard.
- The Bears hit the road for the first time since September 24 with Brown beat Yale in five sets to open Ivy League play. Brown has won its last two road games of the season and is 3-1 on an opponents' home court.
- Cierra Jenkins has been a consistent presence for the Bears during the recent run. Jenkins has posted five-straight double-doubles and leads the team with six. The setter currently sits fourth in the Ivy League with 9.76 assists per set and is averaging 3.26 digs per set, which is second on the team.
- In her first year playing, sophomore Kate Sheire has been an offensive threat for the Bears, averaging 3.05 kills per set and hitting .296 on the season.
- Beau Vanderlaan leads the Ivy League in hitting percentage at .383 on the season. Vanderlaan has the third-most kills out of the top-10 hitters in the league with 132 and has only committed 24 errors. In two of her last three matches, Vanderlaan finished with 13 kills and no errors, hitting over .500 in both.
- Victoria Vo leads the back line defense and is fourth in the Ivy League with 4.53 digs per set. Vo has had double-figure digs in all but one match this season. The freshman has not had fewer than 17 digs in her last eight matches.
- Penn beat Dartmouth and Columbia before dropping a three-set match at Columbia in its last match.
- The Quakers began the season with three-straight wins before dropping eight-straight.
- Penn's defense has struggled this season, allowing teams to hit .245, the worst mark in the Ivy League.
- Despite sitting sixth in the league at 12.81 kills per set, Autumn Leak is tops in the League with 4.14 kills per set.
- Penn is seventh in the league with 13.88 digs per set but Caroline Douglas is second in the league at 4.81 per set.
- Penn won the lone meeting between the two teams in 2019 but Brown took both matches in 2018.
- Princeton has won 10-straight matches after dropping a three-set decision against Towson on Sept. 4. Princeton has won four of its five matches in Ivy League play 3-0.
- The Tigers boast the league's best offense (.249) and best defense (.161). Princeton also sits in first in the league in assists per set (13.02), kills per set (14.07) and blocks per set (2.29).
- Lindsey Kelly is tops in the league with 11.31 assists per set and Julia Schner is tops in the league in blocks per set (1.27).
- Princeton has won 13-straight matches in the series. Brown's last win against Princeton was a five-set victory on Oct. 11 in 2013.
