Volleyball Drops Ivy League Semifinal at No. 1 Seed Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown volleyball dropped its semifinal against the No. 1 seed Princeton in the Ivy League Tournament in three sets on Friday night (Nov. 21), 25-22, 25-15, 25-21.
Sophia Wolfons and Sarah Shaw were tied for the team lead with nine kills each. Shaw hit an impressive .563, not committing an error in the match. Fisayo Afonja added eight kills for the Bears. Julia Kakkis collected 30 assists.
On defense, Brown had three Bears reach double-figures in digs, led by 12 from Eve McLaury. Mariia Sidorova ended the night with 11 digs and Jessie Golden finished with 10. At the net, Brown was led by four blocks from Wolfson.
The Bears finished the night hitting just .190 as a team and allowed Princeton to hit .319.
Brown jumped out to an early 5-2 lead after a kill by Kakkis and after kills by Afonja and Wolfson, Brown's lead had grown to 15-10. Princeton used a 7-1 run to take a 17-16 lead but a kill from Shaw tied it up. The set turned as Princeton scored four-straight points with the score tied at 19 to take a 23-19 lead. Brown fought of two set points but dropped the first set 25-22.
Wolfson tied the second set at four with a kill but Princeton scored five-straight points to take a 9-4 lead. A service ace by Princeton increased the lead to 17-9 and the Tigers ran away with set two, putting Brown in an 0-2 hole.
Set three started out with both teams trading points. No team led by more than two until Princeton used a 4-1 run to go ahead 19-15. The Tigers earned set point at 24-19 but a kill by Wolfson and a block from Kakkis fought off two match points. Brown was unable to fight off any more match points with the Tigers finishing the match off with a kill.
