PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The coed and women's sailing teams completed another weekend of successful competition on Oct. 9-10. Highlights include the coed team winning the Atlantic Coast Qualifier and the women finishing third at the Stu Nelson Trophy.
"The coed team kept it close all weekend long with No. 1 Stanford at the ACC Coed Round 1A Qualifier and took control heading into the last race," head coach John Mollicone said. "It was a great win for the team and great to do it at home and qualify for the Atlantic Coast Championship in a few weeks. When we sail our best we're as good as anyone and the ACC's will be our hardest test of the fall season, similar to the Spring National Championships.
"Our women also finished a strong third place overall at the Stu Nelson Trophy at Connecticut College and continue to develop and put up great results heading into Women's ACC's next weekend at Harvard."
At the Atlantic Coast Qualifier, Connor Nelson and Julia Reynolds came in fourth in Division A, while Jack Murphy, Maddy McGrath and Madeleine Montagner took first in Division B, combining for the overall victory, beating out No. 1 Stanford by 23 points.
At Stu Nelson, Caroline Bayless and Nora Ong finished 10th in Division A, Blaire McCarthy and Emma Montgomery took fourth in Division B, and Brielle Willoughby and Emilia Ruth came in third in Division C. The Bears took third in the overall finish.
The coed team also competed at the Smith Trophy where two teams of Bears finished eighth and 13th.
The women will compete at the Atlantic Coast Championship next weekend from Oct. 16-17, while the coed team will take part in the NEISA Match Race Championships and the Savin Hill Invite.
