NEW ORLEANS – Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.) of Brown women's track & field has been named to the 2020 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Track & Field All-America team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Lewis was set to compete in the women's triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship in New Mexico on March 14 before the NCAA cancelled the event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The USTFCCCA announced that all qualifiers for the national championship will be officially recognized as All-America for the 2020 indoor track & field season. Lewis was seeded eighth out of 16 participants with a leap of 44-1.25 (13.44m), set at the Ivy League Championship, when she won the individual title and set the league, school and facility record.
Lewis was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet at Heps, as she also took fourth in the long jump for fourth all-time in program history. She was named the Northeast Regional Women's Field Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA.
Lewis is one of nine competitors from an Ivy League school to earn All-America recognition at the 2020 indoor championship. She is also the sixth All-American for the women's program in as many years, and first for the indoor season in that span, along with Carly Paul in 2019 (heptathlon) and 2018 (high jump), Shanelle DeJournett in 2017 (high jump), O'Sha Williams in 2016 (triple jump) and Josie Natrasevschi in 2015 (discus).
